UV is used to break down chloramines in swimming pool water as well as providing disinfection. Chloramines (combined chlorine) give rise to the unpleasant ‘chlorine’ smell and are corrosive to fittings and structures surrounding the pool. High levels of chloramine also cause elevated consumption of chlorine to maintain free chlorine levels.
For commercial pools with high bather loads and indoor pools, UV disinfection controls chloramine levels and provides additional disinfection for micro-organisms that are resistant to chlorine disinfection such as cryptosporidium. This ensures a safe, pleasant experience for swimmers while minimizing costs for operators.
The Aqualec AK Series ‘Cross Chamber Design,’ where the water’s inlet and outlet are in one line, results in low head loss and very easy installation in new or existing pipelines. Installation can be completed in both horizontal and vertical applications.
The AK series is equipped with German-made medium-pressure UV lamps, which are compact and emit a broad spectrum of wavelengths with a high-intensity output. Matched with the latest technology and chemical-resistant drivers, the controllers have the ability to ramp power levels down to 20% of full power when such intensities are not needed, leading to massive power savings. This reduces operational costs and increases return on investment.
The smart controllers can operate multiple reactors from a single controller, reducing capital costs.
The AK Series prevents fouling of the quartz sleeves with an effective manual cleaning system or an optional electronic cleaning system.
Selection of the appropriate UV model for each application should be decided in conjunction with an Aqualec specialist, who will advise on sizing and installation.
